As Eastern CT continues to build itself as the place to be in terms of underground music in the state, we have the scoop on a great show coming up on April 6th at community space The Only Place That Ever Felt Like Home in East Hartford.
Shrinnirs - Dawn and Joe, the pair who run Willimantic Records in Willimantic, making avant-garde noisy weirdo punk music. This band has been around since 1987! They are staunch supporters of all ages music in CT and have played with Bikini Kill, Mi6, The Ex, and more. DIY legends.
Catnaps - a band from Philadelphia we are able to ~exclusively announce~ are playing this show! Formerly known as When I Was 12, this group makes, hands down, the cutest music you ever did hear. Their singer, Adrianne, added vocals to that Modern Baseball LP that all the kids are into right now.
Posture & The Grizzly - newly revitalized band from Willimantic making emo/indie jams, featuring members of I’m ok. and One Hundred Year Ocean. “On the rise” and will be also seen soon at a “beautiful” release show in the upcoming months.
Nikolaus - indie/folk in the vein of Mike Kinsella/John Darnielle. This dude also played violin on the new Old Gray LP and will soon be working with Kissing Fractures.
Sleek For The Long Flight - Matt Davidge-Paolillo’s solo work - with Osier Bed on hiatus, she has all new material to showcase in a stripped down setting.
WHOO! This show will be really incredible - so I personally hope you’ll be there! Email itfeltlikehome(at)gmail(dot)com for the address. Show up at 6 for a great time!

Tumblr - the show - 5th edition. Get into it!
Rock band All Get Out makes some of the most sincere music out there right now. Fans of Manchester Orchestra, later Brand New, Sainthood Reps, and Weatherbox will be all about this band, if they aren’t already. Their LP from 2011, The Season, absolutely slays. They have toured with a number of awesome bands like La Dispute this past year and Lydia a few years back. Their live show is furious.
Here’s a clip from their gig in Atlanta last year. God only knows they’ll bring this much energy to The Space on January 17th, when they play with The Almost. Tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door. More info here.
Reblog this and check out all the great ALL AGES gigs coming up in CT.

“HOSTAGE CALM ALBUM-RELEASE ANXIETY”
HOSTAGE CALM
Displaying an in-depth understanding of Silent Majority, Turning Point and Quicksand, Hostage Calm’s wellreceived 2008 debut, Lens, was a comprehensive lesson in what punk and hardcore should sound like. Jagged-yetinfectious melodies effortlessly merged with beefy power chords and politically charged battle cries while fiery anthems formed amidst uncommon song structures.
With that creative momentum and the positive response from fans and critics alike, the band took a year to write and a year to record its Self-Titled follow-up for Boston’s Run for Cover Records. It’s safe to say that the quintet’s knack for composing intelligent, passionate tunes is matched only by that of its musical ambition. While Hostage Calm continues to hint at those Dag Nasty arpeggios and the skipping Descendents-esque beats, these new songs are pushed in unclassifiable directions, cradled by lush layers of jangling acoustic guitars, quick tambourine hits and resonating piano accompaniments.

DAYLIGHT
There’s an pounding, relentless nature to Daylight’s songs. They pulse with a raw electricity and move a with kinetic force that’s great for punk rock adrenaline junkies. Sky-high melodies keep us singing while the raw production and throat-shredding vocals make us scream. At the same time, the interplay between band members – the weaving, twisting instrumentation and little touches like the echo and reverb of a quiet moment – and the flowering seeds of some fairly unconventional ideas (at least in regards to this type of music) make us think that Daylight is definitely headed for bigger and better things.

WEAK TEETH
“Too fast, too furious, pissed-as-fuck hardcore from up North. With a slightly angular and technical edge to their musicianship, they offer more than your standard cookie-cutter hardcore band with a fuller, more musically aware sound that stands as a testament to their unflinching dedication.”

WHOA HEY!
Sunn O)))
Sunn O))) is an American drone metal/experimental band based in New York, NY and Los Angeles, CA and formed in 1998. The band’s core members consist of Stephen O’Malley (Khanate, Burning Witch, SARIN, Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine, Lotus Eaters, Ginnungagap, Thorr’s Hammer, Fungal Hex, KTL, Æthenor, Gravetemple) and Greg Anderson (Goatsnake, Thorr’s Hammer, Burning Witch, Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine, Brotherhood, Engine Kid, False Liberty, Burial Chamber Trio, Ascend). The band was formed as a tribute of sorts to Earth, another very heavy band noted as the pioneers of drone metal. G. Stuart Dahlquist currently of Asva and ex-Burning Witch performed bass on The Grimmrobe Demos and ØØ Void.
Their sound is extremely slow and heavy, using droning guitars accompanied by feedback and other sound effects to create their soundscapes. There is very little drumming and a lack of any discernible beat, though their collaboration album with Boris “Altar” features drumming from drummer, Atsuo.

Dead In The Dirt
Dead in the Dirt was formed by guitarist Blake Connally (ex final expression, me and him call it us) in Dec. 2008. This project did not see much progress occur in the first two years until the addition of drummer Hank Pratt (foundation, daymark, skull kingdom). Bo Orr (Mosaic) would then join on bass and provide vocals as well. Their debut release “Vold”was self released in summer 2010. Their follow up release was a Tour EP for the band’s first west coast tour with Foundation. Their third release will be a 10 song 7” released by Southern Lord Recordings in September 2011.

Club INT - New Britain - 9/3/2012
8pm - $20 (tix available in advance at Redscroll Records in Wallingford or via Manic Productions)
Even if you have never heard Sunn O))) before, I HIGHLY recommend you go to this show if you are a fan of experimental music. This band creates massive and LOUD soundscapes. Bring earplugs. Last time they played CT the PA system caught on fire. There will be fog machines. And there will be a Redscroll distro table, so bring money for records. Get excited.
Can I just say that I know *so many* people going to this show? It’s going to be insane, and from what I’ve been told tickets are going fast. Make sure you pre-order them either online or in person at Redscroll Records in Wallingford!
JOYCE MANOR
“Joyce Manor deconstructs punk rock to its most catchy core with Weezer-esque pop sensibilities and gigantic hooks that beg you to sing along.” New album “Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired” is phenomenal and out now on Asian Man Records.
